About: The Temple Jazz Orchestra (TJO), founded in 1990 and directed
by Thomas Fairlie, is part of the Temple College Performing Arts Department.
What began as a collaboration of traditional music students and adult musicians
has become the premier jazz ensemble in central Texas. TJO now boasts the best
professional jazz musicians and educators from the Temple
region, including musicians from Waco, Killeen, Belton, Austin,
Georgetown, Round Rock, Brownwood, and Rockdale. All TJO musicians are devoted
to jazz education and performance. Many also direct their own bands and perform
professionally throughout Texas. TJO has received recognition at
internationally known jazz festivals including the Montreux Jazz Festival
where they w ill be performing this year.
