Overseas citizens may use the FPCA to request absentee ballots, register to vote, and update contact information, and in the event that a requested absentee ballot is not received in a timely fashion, we can vote using the FWAB as a backup ballot.

Both the FPCA and FWAB forms are accepted by all states and territories in elections for federal office. Voters have the option of using other types of absentee ballot request forms, but Democrats Abroad strongly encourages all overseas voters to use these federal forms to guarantee certain protections — such as the option to receive a ballot electronically and the requirement for election offices to send ballots to voters at least 45 days before elections for federal office.

FVAP included Democrats Abroad in the design review process and incorporated many of our recommendations in the new forms. Voter may still submit older forms following current state requirements. FVAP notes that hardcopy versions of the forms will NOT be available until later this year. For now, the new forms are available as PDFs via FVAP.gov:
Conserve energy, don't feed into the frenzy by wasting your time with propaganda websites that profit off of this hyper-political reality with click-bait headlines.
Thirty-two oil paintings in the solo exhibition This is America present fragments of moments, objects and places from Hanne Blitz's two months in the US last summer. A journey of snapshots of American life and society, revealing the little and big things that make the country different and special, the exhibition lets you discover surprising parallels and contrasts, beauty and dark controversy. Entertaining for adults and children alike, you are invited to meet Hanne's art in This is America!
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06555055634339199189noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5553122942337946104.post-25205221176583320882016-09-17T23:29:00.002+02:002016-09-17T23:50:21.108+02:00Basel Democrats Around Town

What does Jimmy Carter, Maya Angelo and Desmond Tuto have in common with the turbaned Man from Vindravan and the green eyed Girl from Pushkar? They all fall under the artistic scrutiny of the Bulgarian born artist Ross Rossin, who came as an immigrant to the US in 2001 and ended up painting Presidents and the Captains of Industry.

Rossin has devoted his life to uncovering the common ‘spirit’ in each one of us, regardless of race or religion, all entitled to the same human rights with no discrimination.

“In my work I study human nature. I'm interested in the Self Within - for the Self is Supreme, Whole and Absolute…. For me the human face is a bottomless source of inspiration and is the only way to go deeper and farther into my artistic quest for answers. I'm looking for the God's particle in each and every one of us. In that sense, I think that we all are One. One, with many faces.”
Rossin’s new body of work from India will exhibit alongside the portraits of great statesmen and role models such as Jimmy Carter, Desmond Tuto, Maya Angelou amongst others.

In these very troubled times it is important to be reminded about the communality of Mankind.
Make sure Americans in Switzerland are registered to vote

We could use your help as we head into the final months of the 2016 election to make sure Americans in Switzerland are registered to vote. We plan to call all our members (it’s a lot!) and prompt them. Can we convince you to help in a big way to elect Democrats, by investing a small amount of time at home?

Join our phone bank at democratsabroad.org/voter_support_team, login and sign up to volunteer today. We will then provide all the (brief) training and information that you will need to get started.

We will be phoning all of our members to make sure they have requested an absentee ballot and have sent it in on time. We have a fantastic new phone banking system that is 100% online, so you don’t have to use a single minute of your phone plan to help out. All you need is a computer or laptop, Internet access, and a headset.

You are in control: can call as many members as you’d like, 15 minutes on a weekday evening, maybe an hour on a quiet Sunday. Are you able to volunteer a little bit of time to help us keep the White House and turn the Congress blue?

Please go to democratsabroad.org/voter_support_team, login and sign up to join the bank today.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06555055634339199189noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5553122942337946104.post-21863341835758804952016-08-23T15:01:00.000+02:002016-08-23T15:03:46.214+02:00Sign up for Voter Registration Volunteer Training

We are stepping up our Get-Out-the-Vote drive for the upcoming election so we want to have lots of VFA tables at venues and events all across Switzerland.

Help Americans request absentee ballots for the 2016 Election !

Race and Racism in American elections

Race plays a key role in many American presidential campaigns. In 2016, Donald Trump has sought to build support through attacks on Mexicans and Muslims (among others). While bigoted arguments alienate many observers, could Trump's campaign actually advance the national conversation about race, thereby helping to heal the country's racial division?

Lecture by Christopher Parker
Associate Professor in Political Science, University of Washington

Race has traditionally played a key role in many American presidential campaigns. In 2016, Donald Trump has sought to build support through attacks on Mexicans and Muslims (among others). While bigoted arguments alienate many observers, could Trump’s campaign actually advance the national conversation about race, thereby helping to heal the country’s racial division?
"...A reluctance to halt the rise of the seas threatens Florida, just as it threatens Palau. These realities may not be clear for those who’ve never lived in a foreign country. For Americans abroad, they’re painfully obvious. The defining challenge of this generation will be to expand our country’s thinking, reshaping the prevailing view of America’s place in the world. If we succeed, history will judge us kindly. If not, its verdict will be harsh."
The first annual Davidson Hyde Dinner is being held in conjunction with the Democrats Abroad 2016 Global Convention and Global Meeting in Berlin May 12-15.

The Dinner is named after the two founders of Democrats Abroad, Al Davidson who lived in France and Toby Hyde who lived in the United Kingdom. Together with others, they founded Democrats Abroad in 1964, and worked hard to make it the global organization that it is today – giving all overseas Americans the right to vote.
