Cory Booker impresses DACH at Global Town Hall event

Mayor Cory Booker of New Jersey joined Democrats Abroad around the world for a Global Town Hall fundraising event. Here in Switzerland, DA members got together over dinner and drinks on Saturday night at a fellow American's home to support the Booker for Senate campaign and hear from this rising star in Democratic politics.

Our group gathered around the TV for a video conference call and for many of us present, it was our first experience using this interface. Seeing the dozens of other DA members from other country chapters gathered in their living rooms to collectively take part in this Town Hall made us feel truly part of a global organisation!

Booker was full of energy and after a short introduction, went through our questions which had been sent to him earlier in the week. We were thrilled that Cory answered two questions from our chapter, sent in by Mark P. and Sharon H. Cory immediately impressed us with his breadth of knowledge on many issues. His first question was related to Americans Abroad and if he would support an Americans Abroad Caucus in the Senate to represent interests of New Jerseyans and all Americans living overseas. Something similar to what Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (NY) co-chairs in the House of Representatives.  Booker gave us his firm support.

Mayor Booker also handled detailed and tougher questions related to a variety of national programs and policies in a succinct and clear way. These covered education funding and the private sector, helping under-water home-owners to avoid evictions, the financial crisis, to name a few.

He's very impressive, and we all left the event feeling committed to supporting Booker in his future in the U.S. Senate.
