- Set up decorations ahead of the event from 4PM-6PM. (Bring your kids
to help!)
- Take photos or videos.
- Blog and post on social media sites.
- In the coming week, put up flyers announcing the Global Primary event
at campuses and work places around Geneva.
Also, if anyone out
there has design skills and some time to help before the event – we could put
your skills to good use! Again, just write to: volunteer@democrats.ch.
4) CANDIDATES FOR
DELEGATE TO THE DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL CONVENTION
The DA Global Primary
is the process by which we choose the delegates that will go to the Democratic
National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina to nominate our Presidential
candidate on behalf of Democrats Abroad.
We've had an
overwhelming number of candidates throw their hats into the ring for this honor
– with 99 candidates running from the EMEA region alone, and 6 in the
Switzerland!
We wanted to clarify
a few important points regarding the campaigns for delegate:
- Candidate
list to help you decide how to vote: you can read the original
application form for each of the 99 EMEA candidates by clicking
here. In addition, each candidate was given the
opportunity to answer some additional questions about themselves as well as
include a link to any websites for further information. We have consolidated
all of those answers into one pdf file.
You can view that file at www.democratsabroad.org/sites/default/files/EMEA_Delegate_Candidate_Surveys.pdf
(login required).
- Campaigning
at Primary Events: Any candidates or their supporters who choose to attend
a Primary Event and actively campaign and solicit votes there are free to do
so, provided that they are NOT also volunteering at that primary event, and
that they stay at least 10 meters distant from the ballot box.
- Democrats
Abroad Facebook Page: Any Candidate to become a Delegate within the EMEA
region (or supporter of such Candidate) who wishes to explain their candidacy
on our Facebook pages is free to do so. You will find a number of wall posts
from candidates already posted on our DA Switzerland page and
the DA international page.
- Democrats
Abroad Website: Registered members are also free to post information in
support of their candidacy on the Democrats Abroad website.
What else is coming
up in DA?

Behind the Scenes of Nuit des Bains

Our first fundraising cultural event in Geneva on Wednesday 14 March was a resounding success! Over CHF 2,000 was raised for our GOTV fund for 2012. Sarah Burkhalter, art historian, took an enthusiastic group of DACH members and their friends on a private guided tour previewing the exhibitions at five contemporary art galleries in Geneva's Quartier des Bains, a day before the official Nuit des Bains event (BFAS Blondeau Fine Arts Services, Analix Forever, Mitterrand + Cramer, Xippas Art Contemporain and Blancpain Art Contemporain). Several artists (Robert Montgomery, Janaina Tschäpe and Urs Lüthi) were on hand to speak about their work and answer questions, as were several gallerists (Marc Blondeau, Philippe Davet, Barbara Polla, Renos Xippas and Marie-Claude Stobart). After the tour, half of the group stayed on for a fun and delicious dinner at Restaurant Ou Bien.
Register today for the 2nd Visit Behind the Scenes of Nuit des Bains, A Special Tour for Democrats on Abroad! http://bit.ly/DAnuits

7) Save WRS
Save World Radio Switzerland
We would like to draw your attention to the status of WRS - the English-language radio station familiar to so many of us across Switzerland. Many of us get our news from the BBC, Fresh Air from NPR, and insights about Swiss life from this English-language station, which will be pivotal in bringing us news of the upcoming Presidential race.
Last week, the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation announced that it is in the process of deciding the future of World Radio Switzerland. Two scenarios are being considered, including privatizing the station or closing it outright, though the latter seems to be the more likely possibility.

Democratic Presidential Primary Voting in Switzerland
The excitement of the Democratic presidential nominating process will be coming to Switzerland on May 3rd. This is the time when American Democrats can show their support by voting to once again have Barack Obama as the Democratic Nominee for President in 2012.
The Democratic Party is unique among American political parties in considering Democrats Abroad as ''the 51st state'' and offering our members living outside of the U.S. the chance to cast their vote for
Barack Obama. In Switzerland, Democrats Abroad members will vote in the primary on May 3rd from 6:00-9:00 PM, at The Bristol Hotel, 10 rue du Mont-Blanc, 1201 Geneva.
At this same event, Democrats Abroad will also be electing our delegates to go to the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, in September. The delegates will represent us
in nominating Barack Obama. We have several Democrats Abroad Switzerland members who are candidates running to be delegates. Their names along with the full list of candidates will be announced
soon.
As background, President Obama is not the official nominee of the party until the state delegates, including Democrats Abroad, have voted at the Convention in Charlotte.
If you can't attend the official primary event on May 3rd in Geneva, then you can vote in the presidential primary with an absentee ballot by mail, fax or email. Contact secretary@democrats.ch to request your absentee ballot by April 30th.
Americans, who are not yet registered as a Democrat Abroad, can do so at the May 3rd Democrats Abroad Primary event in Geneva and vote that same day. It's quick and easy at: www.democratsabroad.org/
We very much hope that you will participate in the Democrats Abroad Primary, and we would especially love to see you come in person to cast your ballot. For overseas voters, this is the only chance we
will have this year to actually walk into a voting place and cast an in-person ballot. Read more: https://
