Documentary Viewing "Waiting for Superman"

What:
The protests for public union rights that have emerged across the US - in Wisconsin in particular - have captured headlines and placed a spotlight on teacher unions, in addition to others. The debate about the US educational system is ongoing. While some of the discussions pertain to how educational achievement and growth can be measured, other aspects look at management and the overarching educational bureaucracy.

To shed some light on this issue, DA will show the award winning documentary "Waiting for Superman". In this film, Filmmaker Davis Guggenheim follows a handful of promising kids through a system that inhibits, rather than encourages, academic growth, Guggenheim undertakes an exhaustive review of public education, surveying "drop-out factories" and "academic sinkholes," methodically dissecting the system and its seemingly intractable problems.

No matter where you are from in the US or whether or not you have kids this debate affects you. Please join us to watch this excellent documentary.
