RALLY OCTOBER 30TH IN ZURICH AND GENEVA

Wish you could be in Washington DC at Jon Stewart's Rally to Restore Sanity and Stephen Colbert's March to Keep Fear Alive, this Saturday October 30th? So do we! Support the Rally from Zurich and Geneva:

Zurich: We'll rally from 6pm to 8pm on Saturday October 30th at the Regenbogen Bar and show our support.
Come out, bring friends, and together let's be a part of the effort to restore sanity!
Rosengasse 6
8001 Zurich

Geneva: Be at Parc des Bastions, in front of Mur des Reformateurs for a  a 'FLASH MOB' at 6pm sharp to gather for a few minutes and then quickly disperse (15 minute rally). Bring a 'sane or not' sign or wear a 'spooky costume'. Best one wins a Rally to Restore Sanity baseball cap!

Everyone is welcome: liberals, conservatives, Americans, and Swiss alike.

Background: Earlier this year, Fox News host and polarizing figure Glenn Beck organized a rally to 'Restore Honor' on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, in Washington DC. In response, comedians Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, hosts of the popular television shows The Daily Show with John Stewart, and The Colbert Report, conceived of a rally to mock the dichotomous politics, which are symptomatic of the televised US political discourse lately.

Americans hold Rally to Restore Sanity

Geneva, Switzerland – Americans in Switzerland hold Rally to Restore Sanity on Saturday, at 18h00, October 30th 2010.

With only days to go before the election on November 2nd, over 200,000 Americans in Washington DC are rallying to restore sanity to politics, on Saturday, October 30th. In support, Americans across the world are organizing parallel rallies, including in Geneva and in Zurich. “We want to send a clear message to those standing in the way of evidence based politics that we will not tolerate political insanity any longer.” says Ammad Bahalim, Vice-Chair of Democrats Abroad Switzerland.

Background: Earlier this year, Fox News host and polarizing figure Glenn Beck organized a rally to “Restore Honor” on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, in Washington DC. In response, comedians Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, hosts of the popular television shows The Daily Show with John Stewart, and The Colbert Report, conceived of a rally to mock the dichotomous politics, which are symptomatic of the televised US political discourse lately.

“Regular people everywhere just want to make sure that that the loudest voices aren’t the only ones that get to be heard,” said Bahalim. He added, “for those who are living abroad and can’t be in Washington, this is an opportunity to lend our support, all the way from Switzerland.”

Everyone is welcome: liberals, conservatives, Americans, and Swiss alike. The Rally is politically neutral, and will take place in Geneva as a “flash mob,” in which supporters gather for a few minutes and then quickly disperse. In Zurich, Democrats Abroad and supporters will be gathering to watch the Washington Rally live on television from Regenbogen Bar from 18h-20h.

Events Details:
Date - Saturday 30 October 2010
Geneva: Parc des Bastions, in front of Mur des Reformateurs. Flash mob at 18h00.
Zurich: Regenbogen Bar, Rosengasse 6, 8001 Zurich. Live streaming of rally in Washington DC, from 18h-20h.

Pre-election casual dems gathering

You've received invitations these past few months to hear directly from 20 Democratic candidates through the very successful Keep the Congress series. We'd like to invite you to a casual gathering with fellow Geneva Dems for the final call of the series and to spend a friendly evening talking about the races and politics back home.

We will hear from the candidate for US Senate from the great state of New Hampshire, Congressman Paul Hodes. The race in NH is a tough one but Hodes has a real chance to win the Senate seat held by Republicans for over 30 years and help the Democrats keep the majority.

Where: Home of DA Switzerland Chair. Please RSVP to attend and receive the address and directions. (Location: Plainpalais, 1204 Geneva). Space is limited, RSVP quickly!

When: Monday, October 25th, from 7 to 9 pm, call-in with Paul Hodes, Democratic candidate for US Senate from New Hampshire, at 8 pm Geneva time.

Requested contribution: At your discretion. Every dollar donated to Paul Hodes via http://www.actblue.com/page/keepcongress will be matched dollar for dollar up to the $1,000 by a generous Geneva supporter. Contributions can be made through the Democrats Abroad website at the event or ahead of time via http://www.actblue.com/page/keepcongress

If you can't make it: Please consider contributing from home through the following link: http://www.actblue.com/page/keepcongress

Time has flown and the midterms are upon us. Monday evening, October 11th, a DA member will be hosting a call-in from southwest Florida grassroots Congressional candidate Jim Roach, a veteran of the Obama 08 campaign, who is taking on two-term Republican scion Connie Mack IV. Jim is a decorated veteran and local businessman who was spurred by the healthcare debate to put his hat into the ring.

Take a look at Jim's website hereThe district he is running in, Florida's 14th, covers Lee County, Collier County and Port Charlotte County, which include the Naples-Ft. Myers area. Long a Republican bastion, southwest Florida moved towards the Democratic column in 08 with a sizeable Republicans for Obama movement.

For a truly chilling read, here is a list of Rep. Connie Mack's voting record in Congress. Rep. Mack has been part of the Republican steamroller, voting against every significant piece of legislation the Obama administration has introduced thus far. The Tea Party is also quite active in the district, and despite the great inroads made in turning Florida blue in 08, the SW part of the state remains red.

The going is tough, so let's get going Democrats!
